Rocket League: The Greatest Up And Coming Esport | ELV Review

Rocket League RLCS Season 3

If you like fast paced competitive games then there is no game that should hold your attention more than Psyonix’s Rocket League. This is the game that plays nothing like your “standard sports game,” like Madden or FIFA, however, at the same time, Rocket League feels like playing a real sport more than any other game out there. If you don’t like like racing games, and you don’t like soccer games, you likely will fall in love with this Psyonix masterpiece anyway if fast paced player vs player games are your cup of tea.

For a taste of the high paced action and an understanding of why this is such a fast growing esport, check out the highlight video from last year’s Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Finals:

RLCS Season 3

The RLCS season 3 started on March 18 2017 and will end on April 23 preceding the North American finals and Europe finals in May. The reining champions from last year are FlipSid3 Tactics with their stacked roster: MarkyDooDa, Greazymeister, and widely held best player in the world Kuxir97. All three members hail from different countries but their coordinated teamwork is undoubtedly a work of art.

Psyonix is so confident in the growth and success of Rocket League as a popular game and esport that they will be investing another $2.5 million into it in 2017. Dotesports.com has this to say about Psyonix’s promising announcement for their 2017 expansion:

Psyonix is ramping up its Rocket League esports investment for 2017.

Working off the success of its first two seasons of the Rocket League Championship Series, Psyonix has announced it will put more than $2.5 million into Rocket League esports this year.

That means more than $1 million in total prize pools—which includes $300,000 for the RLCS— and onsite events at major gaming conventions like PAX and South by South West.

Psyonix is also planning on expanding its funding for community-run tournaments, as well as weekly tournaments across Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, and elsewhere. Beyond that, a “true” collegiate Rocket League esports program is expected to be rolling out in 2017, expanding on the Rocket League Collegiate Spring Showdown that ran last year.

The Rise of Las Vegas Esports

Rocket League is already over 25 million registered players and climbing quickly. Las Vegas is currently celebrating recent news of the Raiders football team coming to Las Vegas but Las Vegas is also looking to become the esports capital of the US. For all the Las Vegas esports fans out there, keep this game on your radar because Esports In Las Vegas (ELV) believes Rocket League esports is only getting bigger heading into 2017.
