Power Up Gaming is stepping up the competitive esports game in Las Vegas with its cutting edge facility just off the corner of Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch. After being open for only 2 years, it’s already one of the most popular venues for local gamers. They currently have over a dozen console stations, and during their weekly events, it’s not uncommon to see the place filled with players competing in tournaments, playing new games, or trying out their Playstation VR setup. For PC gamers, they also have a LAN room with 6 gaming computers.

Power Up is welcoming the rapid growth! They’re working towards getting enough gaming PCs to hold local tournaments for games like League of Legends and Overwatch. And plan on providing all three gaming consoles, (Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U) to be available on all the stations around the room.

Weekly SSB4 Tournaments Bring in Over 30 Competitors

Just this past Wednesday February 22nd, they held their weekly Smash 4 tournament that usually brings in around 32 people. Ivan Castillo runs the event and organizes tournaments for the entire SSB4 community in Las Vegas. When at least 33 people show up, which is usually the case, the top four get paid. The tournament maxes out at 40. Ivan has also helped out with tournaments in places like Press Start Gaming, and the former Esports Arena complex, R.I.P.

Local Esports Pros Come to Tournaments at Power Up Gaming

Some really good gamers in the esports community tend to show up to these tournaments. Number three in Las Vegas SSB4, Lycan is usually there, as well as some of the best in SSB4, Las Vegas. I was able to speak to the number one ranked SSB4 in Las Vegas, JK from Yatta Gaming. He takes this game serious and adds, “If you like to push yourself, then this community is for you.”

SSB4 has some of the best turn outs for tournaments in Las Vegas. The community really rallies together to create the ultimate competitive community in Las Vegas Esports.

The best part about these tournaments is that Power Up has the perfect set up for viewing the matches.  Central to the gaming center is a projector screen where anyone can view the tournament. Competitors and spectators can mingle in a friendly environment as people cheer on their favorite players. In addition they have comfortable seating and sell beverages and snacks, and plan on opening a full kitchen in the futur. This is a great atmosphere for those of us that are just looking to be spectators, competitors, or if you just suck at SSB4 like me and want to live through those who are more gifted.
